RISING IN SANDY’S WAKE.  A 30 STORY TOWER ON WALL STREET IS GETTING A SECOND LIFE.

ARExA is collaborating with WeWork on this adaptive reuse of a 30 story tower in Manhattan’s financial district.  The office tower was vacated in 2012 after flooding by Superstorm Sandy.

In the wake of this tragedy and the changing character of lower Manhattan, ARExA was called upon to reimagine the programming and use of the building. The solution proposed is a mixed-use building comprised of local, neighborhood-oriented retail / food and beverage, with collaborative workspace above and a progressive new residential concept for the upper floors – WeLive.

WeWork’s workspace floors and the building lobby were opened in Fall of 2015. WeLive has been steadily opening 3 floor ‘neighborhoods’ at one month intervals.
