Cloudline / Basecamp | An Adventure Hub Deep in Utah’s Wassatch Range

Perched atop a ridgeline overlooking Utah’s Powder Mountain ski area, the Powder Mountain House is a base for adventures in the surrounding Wassatch wilderness.

Based on the form of the local classic pitched roof barn, the Powder Mountain House was conceived of in two halves: a heavy, layered concrete base grounds the building within the mountaintop and creates a refuge from the potentially harsh environment, while a lightweight, light-diffusing roof brings the outside in comfortably connecting the inhabitants with their surrounds.

The house is a part of the Summit Series development, known for its popular startup conference that connects entrepreneurs, artists, musicians, and nonprofit leaders. The Summit team purchased the mountain in 2013 and set out to create a permanent home adjacent to 10,000 acres of pristine skiable terrain. Powder Mountain House is at part of the ridge nest community, a series of small footprint cabins with immediate ski access and multi-state views.
